Queensland Boat Inspections is an independently owned and operated business by Leighton Todd. Leighton has a long history in Queensland's marine industry, starting in 1995. Over his career, he has worked in mechanical servicing, spare parts, and has over twenty years of boat sales and brokerage experience.
In 2007, Leighton recognized a gap in boat buyer protection. He began offering independent used boat inspections (seaworthy inspections) and valuations, introducing a concept that combined mechanical proficiency with expertise in boat building and compliance.
Queensland Boat Inspections is fully insured and hold a current Marine Card, enabling us to conduct inspections on-site at private residences, businesses, marinas, boat yards, and auction yards.

Our comprehensive pre-purchase boat inspection covers nearly all aspects of the package, starting with a detailed examination of the hull for damage, poor or previous repairs, rot, soft areas, electrolysis, osmosis, and other potential issues.
The inspection also includes checks of the boat’s electronics, navigation lights, and bilge pump(s), along with a full mechanical assessment of the motor. For most fuel-injected engines, we perform a computer diagnostics scan to retrieve engine hours, historical data, and any stored fault codes. Where applicable, the trailer and its components are also assessed.
Once the inspection is complete, you’ll receive a verbal overview on the day, along with online access to typically 100+ photos taken throughout the inspection. A detailed written vessel condition report is supplied by the next business day and can be used for finance or insurance purposes (seaworthy certificate).
An identification check and PPSR search are included to assist in confirming ownership and ensure no finance is owing on the vessel.
The all-inclusive fee for this service starts from $198 (various depending on boat size and location), which includes GST and travel to the boat’s location.
All inspections are carried out by Leighton Todd personally and are backed by over 30 years of hands-on marine experience.
